Baptism Booklet 2023 (which includes Baptismal Class Schedules)
The sacrament of Baptism is a very important event in the life of your child. Through Baptism, your child will receive God’s sanctifying grace for the first time, and become a member of the Body of Christ through membership in the Catholic Church. We are delighted to welcome your child as one of the newest members of our parish as well! St. James prides itself on being a warm and caring parish community. We hope that the time you spend in preparing for your child’s baptism will be a unique opportunity for you to deepen your participation in the life of our parish. Each Sunday we gather for Mass to celebrate who we are as God’s people. Together we reflect on God’s Holy Word and are
nourished by the Eucharist (Holy Communion), which is the source and summit of our life.
Meeting With a Deacon
We would like the opportunity to meet you before the Baptism of your child. One of our Deacons will meet with parents on weekday evenings in the Parish Center. They are looking forward to your visit.
At that meeting they will review the form you filled out on-line or when you came to the Parish Office inquiring about having your child baptized. Both the date you will attend the Baptismal Class (see BAPTISMAL CLASS below), and the date for your child’s baptism will be scheduled if everything is in order when you meet. Please fill out on the baptismal form above and one of our receptionists will call to schedule a meeting.
Baptismal Packet
When you meet with the parish couple they will give you a special packet which includes a guide to the sacraments, a listing of the various ministries and organizations associated with our parish, a booklet on the Sacrament of Penance (Confession), and information regarding programs here at St. James for young mothers and their children. At St. James there is a requirement that parents of a child to receive the sacrament attend a baptismal class. Please note Baptism classes are held in Delaney Hall unless otherwise noted. If you are unable to attend one of our parish sessions, you may complete a baptismal preparation instruction at another parish. Please make sure that the other parish gives you a letter of completion which you may drop off at the parish center.
Family Mass:
Each Sunday we have a Family Mass at 10:00 AM, which is geared towards families with younger children. At the Family Mass you are likely to meet some of your neighbors and friends gathered with their children as well. The priests and staff of St. James Parish are pleased to be here to serve you and your family. We are sure that you will enjoy “belonging more deeply” to our parish family. We look forward to many happy years together. Sincerely in Christ, Rev. John M. Derasmo, Pastor
